Ted here again to let you know what I’ve been up to at New Lanark this September. After I came back my holidays (in Bar-bear-dos) I was straight back to work at New Lanark’s Doors Open Weekend! We had lots of people come down to the site over the weekend to explore buildings in New Lanark not usually open to the public. You’ll never guess who was there too – David Dale and Richard Arkwright had travelled forward in time from the 1800’s to give free tours to visitors! Doors Open Days is co-ordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust, so you can visit their website to find out about more events across Scotland.
As of yesterday (Wednesday 23rd September) it’s now officially Autumn! It’s one of my favourite seasons here at New Lanark, you really don’t want to miss visiting here and seeing all the beautiful colours – just like Alan Knox has captured in this amazing photograph of the Falls of Clyde! From the New Lanark Book Festival, to fun kids craft workshops during the October break there’s lots going on here this Autumn. Just visit our website to read all about it!
As I mentioned New Lanark is hosting its very own Book Festival at the start of October! From Thursday 1st – Sunday 4th over 20 brilliant authors will be speaking at the event on loads of interesting topics like Scottish History, Textiles, Scottish food (mmmm) & Scotch Whisky! Well-known authors like Christopher Brookmyre and James Robertson will be taking to the stage, along with up-and-coming novelists like Jonathan Whitelaw and Mandy Haggith. You can view the full list of author sessions here and get your tickets here!
The Schools in South Lanarkshire will be taking a break from 25th – 28th September, and we’ll be running Daily Tours at New Lanark on each of these days at 2pm. It’s included in a Visitor Centre ticket, and will give you the chance to find out lots more about the fascinating history of New Lanark.
Last but not least, New Lanark will be hosting our very own Halloween Spook-tacular event on Saturday 31st October with creepy crafts, storytelling & spooky night time tours! Come along if you dare 🙂
