New Lanark hosts first Scanathon!

New Lanark hosts first Scanathon!

On Monday 17th April, New Lanark will be running the village’s first ever Scanathon!

New Lanark’s team of friendly volunteers will be looking for photographs and documents of people living and working in New Lanark and the surrounding area and will scan these materials, incorporating them into the New Lanark Search Room Archive.

The Scanathon will be running from 11am-4pm in the Institute River Room at New Lanark on Monday 17th April with free entry. Visitors who cannot make the event on Monday 17th April can submit their photographs or documents digitally – full details of how to do this are available at www.newlanark.org. Any enquiries about the Scanathon should be forwarded to [email protected]

New Lanark are particularly interested to hear from anyone who has connections with people who used to live in Double Row and Mantilla Row at New Lanark.

The Scanathon is being supported by the Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership.

Visitors who submit their photographs and stories may have the chance to see them projected on a massive scale as part of New Lanark’s Shining Lives event this autumn.

Shining Lives will be a spectacular sound and light projection event in New Lanark World Heritage Site on 20th and 21st October 2017. With the stunning 230 year old buildings acting as the display surface, historic images & video footage from New Lanark and the surrounding area will be brought to life on a grand scale, augmented by a soundtrack, lighting and living history which echo the life of the mills and the workers. Through this innovative event, the tangible and intangible heritage of New Lanark will be combined to capture imaginations and provide a unique interpretation of this famous site.

Shining Lives is part of the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology Signature Events Programme and as such entry to the event will be free. There will be a limited capacity per evening and those interested in registering for ticket updates should sign-up for email updates at www.newlanark.org/shininglives
