Spring Food & Gift Fair 2016 – Meet the stallholders!

On Monday 2nd May New Lanark’s annual Spring Food and Gift Fair will highlight the best of local goods with a variety of stalls showcasing tasty food, drinks, crafts and gifts from across the country. This is a fun day out for the whole family to make the most of the Early May Bank Holiday, getting a taste of Scotland as well as picking up some beautiful gifts.

The Fair is being held in the forecourt and inside the Institute for the Formation of Character which celebrates its Bicentenary in 2016. Entry is free and the fair is open from 10am – 4pm.

Visitors will be able to choose from a range of Food Stalls selling tasty food such as burgers, cheese, pickles, condiments & a hog roast. This can all be washed down with a range of Drink Stalls selling everything from artisan coffee from Glasgow to locally made cider & beer. For those with a sweet tooth, there will also be a range of Confectionary Stalls selling candy floss, fudge, tablet and lots of other sweet treats. There will even be a special Pop-Up New Lanark Ice Cream Parlour in the Institute’s River Room for children to make their own Ice Cream Sundaes.

At the Fair there will be a fantastic range of Craft Stalls from artisan makers selling glassware, handmade jewellery, cards, paper goods and woodwork. These will be accompanied a selection of Knitwear & Textiles Stalls, including New Lanark Wool & Textiles which is produced on-site using historic textile machinery. There will also be plenty of Gift Stalls, giving visitors the chance to treat themselves or pick up a present for a loved one with Prints & Photos, Health & Beauty Products and Children’s Clothing

Let’s meet some of the stallholders…

All Things Nice Food

We are a family run, local business producing artisan products using only the finest ingredients. Our jam, chutney and marmalades are handmade in small batches in a kitchen, not a factory. No artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives are added, only using natural sugar and fruit for sweetness (no fructose, fruit syrup, corn syrup or any other unrecognisable ingredients you’ll often find in your supermarket products). We use traditional recipes, sometimes with a modern twist, resulting in a delicious, quality product which is as good as we can make it. Our gift bags, with your choice of contents, make perfect presents for birthdays, Christmas, special occasions or just to say thankyou to a neighbour, teacher or friend.

Superlative Pearls

What started as a hobby, moved quickly to become a passion and ended up an obsession!! Hand made jewellery and all things glittery – I just can’t stop making them, so much so that I had to end up selling them to fund my obsession. My customers seem happy enough with that!!!!
I design and make necklaces and earrings from freshwater pearls, Czech crystal and silver beads. I usually only make one or two of the same designs in my necklace range, not because I want to offer exclusivity, but mainly because my memory is so bad that I cant remember previous designs!!!
My jewellery is sparkly and fun and because this is more a hobby than a business I can afford to sell my gorgeous jewellery at pocket friendly prices. The more I sell the more I get to make!! Everyone wins!

Creative LM’ents

Items are all handmade, including soft furnishings, home décor items and stitched gifts. Some of the items you’ll find on my stall are Cushions, Doorstops, decorative woolen wreaths, stitched gift items for young and old, fabric hangings and fabric embellished cards for a variety of occasions. I’m a self-taught crafter with a passion for creating beautiful items for my clients to enjoy. I love working with fabrics and wool to create a variety of items for your home. I’m a mother, a wife and I also work in a day job for an Architect (so design is in the blood). Crafting is a bit of an escape, something that I can immerse myself in after all the daily chores are complete and I get great enjoyment out of the items I create.
My products are lovingly made; I love using textiles and use a lot of tartan and wool fabrics for my makes. I up cycle items such as travel rugs into cushions and you will sometimes find me raiding the remnant bins in search of those hidden gems! Bits of cut offs that I can create something that will be loved and enjoyed. I like trying out new things, a recent idea is combining my passion for working with textiles and an urge to make cards… the result a range of bespoke fabric decorated cards for all occasions.

FOAL drinks

Support new, local, Scottish business today and try a bottle of FOAL. This brand new drinks concept brings the flavours of fantastic orange and lemonade to the premium, craft soft drinks market in a classy glass bottle. Try it on its own or as a mixer with your favourite gin and JOIN THE REVOLUTION.

FOAL was born from an idea – one of the favourite non-alcoholic drinks throughout the UK has always been fresh orange and lemonade. However, with such a tipple comes the problem of having to buy two separate drinks– there is no ready to drink, convenient alternative.

Two years on, FOAL (Fantastic Orange and Lemonade) was brought to the market in March 2016. Now it’s available to enjoy guilt-free – at only 80 calories per bottle – with your favourite meal, or as a refreshing mixer with gin or vodka.

FOAL aims to retain its key values and prides itself on being a Scottish Brand with a Scottish Attitude. We are a proud, determined and honest brand. We may be the underdog, but we are not afraid to stand up and fight for our place in the market.

Stockists are starting to pop up across Scotland, so whenever you see the black silhouette, Join the Revolution, try a fantastic new soft drink and support young, brave new business!

Ted’s June at New Lanark

Ted’s June at New Lanark

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all been enjoying June so far – I’ve had a really busy month already celebrating Lanark Lanimers. You’ve probably heard of it already, but if not you just need to know that it’s a traditional week of celebrations in the town of Lanark which all cumulates on Lanimer Day when the Lanimer Queen is crowned and there’s a big procession down the High Street with local schools & groups dressed up in brilliant costumes.

To look my best for the week, I decided to dress up as a Lanimer Lord Cornet complete with Harris Tweed jacket, hat, sash & flag (all that’s missing is a horse!). My fantastic Harris Tweed jacket was made by Irene Murray from I heart bags. Irene makes lots of wonderful products, like bags and tablet cases using lovely bright colours of Harris Tweed. She can be emailed on [email protected] if you’d like to find out more about her products. My jodhpurs and riding boots were knitted by Janice and Lesli from the New Lanark Visitor Centre using New Lanark wool, they certainly did keep my paws warm!

I showcased my new outfit at the Ride Out at New Lanark on the Tuesday night of Lanimer Week where I even got to meet the Lanimer Queen Jenna and Gordon the Lord Cornet!

On Thursday the sun was shining for the people of Lanark to enjoy Lanimer Day. It was my first time watching the procession and I can’t wait until next year!

After the excitement of Lanimer Week I visited the new exhibition in the New Lanark River Room. Run by Spectrum Art Group, there are some wonderful paintings from the art group’s members. The exhibition is free to view, and it’s running until Saturday 4th July.

Tom’s Tablet – Scottish tablet
“Tablet is something I remember from my own childhood growing up in Scotland. My Grandma used to make it for us to enjoy – happy memories!  I took her recipe and after much practice to perfect the flavour, the colour, and consistency, I taste-tested it on my Dad. I worked hard to make the ‘best batch’ especially for him.  Today, I pay homage to his memory by producing… TOM’S TABLET,  ‘the best batch of finest quality Scottish Tablet’ from Rona Orr, Founding Partner

tom's tablet 2THE FOUNDERS
Rona has been producing tablet for 10 years now and after much practice has perfected her Grandma’s version of the “best batch”. Diane, her childhood friend, brings 20 years of brand experience having worked for some of the globe’s most influential brands. Together, they have pulled on each others strengths to develop Tom’s Tablet!

OUR VALUES
Quality is key to our success.  We work extremely hard to produce ‘our best batch of Scottish Tablet’ using the highest quality of ingredients.  As soon as the tablet has cooled, our customer service team aim to provide the best service possible to our valued customers.
